The Highroad Story
Sandra Dearden founded our firm on July 1, 1996. Originally organized as MDCO Consulting, Inc., the firm was re-branded as Highroad Consulting, Ltd.
Sandra worked for three Class I railroads; her most recent position was General Manager, Marketing & Sales with Chicago & Northwestern, and later Union Pacific.
With a full-time staff, and more than thirty contract consultants, the firm’s primary objective is to provide quality consulting services in all functional areas of surface transportation. Highroad clients include shippers, law firms, short line railroads, and other consulting firms. Our most distant client was the Ministry of Railways in Beijing, Peoples Republic of China.
Highroad consultants have achieved a 100% success record, providing expert testimony before the STB and in numerous civil court proceedings.

Executive Vice President-
Donald is responsible for Highroad Consulting, Ltd.'s financial activities. Don manages day-to-day operations and consulting teams ensuring that projects progress smoothly and are completed on time.
Manager Client Services-
Simon joined Highroad in November 2022, as a Transportation Analyst. He was promoted to Manager Client Services in September 2024. In that role, he is responsible for freight bill payment and for transportation operations for Highroad’s retainer clients.
